Promo 4 BW

Genre: indie-rock

Bio: Durham indie-rockers The Retrobutes have released their debut single ‘These Days’.Following in the tradition of spiky, ambitious Northern guitar bands, The Retrobutes have an unshakeable belief in the age-old power of rock n’ roll. With a clutch of new songs fed on a diet of the classics (Beatles, Stones, The Who) and driven by the Weller-esque holler of Johnny Baul, the band unleashed their debut 4 track EP The Show Must Go Wrong on May 26th.

Track: These Days

When asked about the track Baul said: “These Days is about the current state of today’s misguided youth culture. Idolising reality TV morons, offering no love or empathy for one another – just a self-obsessed drive to conform with what is perceived as fitting in. It’s a response to those values and pressures”.

Why we Like It: Its a high powered ball of neck snapping energy. Blasting with with frantic guitars and crashing drums alongside cutting, wry lyrics and a shredding guitar solo, its a rugged kinetic explosion of catchy garage-rock.

 Rusty Shipp

Genre: grunge rock

Bio: Rusty Shipp is a rock band from Nashville, TN that likes to call their style Nautical rock n’ roll. They combine the influences of rock legends like The Beatles, Dick Dale and The Beach Boys with the hard-hitting sounds of modern alt rock bands like Nirvana, Muse, and Thrice to craft songs distinguished by their addictive melodies, unconventional riffs, and haunting vocals. Track: Devil Jonah

When asked about their sound Russ T. explained: “Though we’re noticeably darker and more aggressive than The Beatles, Their form of songwriting resonates with the largest number of human beings, and we try to tap into that same magic. Bands like Nirvana and Muse did the same thing, but we’re taking it in an even more philosophical direction, while still having fun by incorporating the nautical theme.”

Why We Like It: Its a mighty pounding piece of unconventional rock wrapped in dark pop melodies which are set alight by metallic riffs and heavy headbang ready instrumentation. Its fiery gritty and brawny, thundery and robust in all the right places.

Jamie Martin

Genre: blues/soul/rock singer-songwriter

Bio: The young artist and producer from Glasgow fuses indie and soul songwriting with modern blues rock guitar heroics. Influenced by John Mayer, Ben Howard and John Martyn and known for his combination of honest and intimate live shows, Jamie offers a unique, multi-layered interpretation of the traditional solo singer-songwriter. His introduction to a music career began with production and engineering, experience which he is now utilising with his own sonically diverse and innovative recordings which recall Bon Iver and recent City & Colour albums. Following the release of his debut self-titled EP last year, Jamie played high profile shows at prestigious Glasgow venues King Tut’s, ABC and The Garage and blew away audiences at Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Jamie will be playing more live dates with his backing band this Spring and Summer.

Track: What’s The Use

When asked about the track Jamie said :
“I originally wrote this song about being divided from someone at the end of a failing relationship, but it since took on a more generalised meaning – that basing your views and definitions of right and wrong without a contrasting viewpoint splits us all into our own little self-curated social circles. Sonically, I wanted the song to follow the bleak sentiment of the lyrics with distortion on just about everything.”

Why we Like It: Its a heart wrenching passionate bluesy piece of melancholy alt. soul. With gripping yearning vocals and emotion stirring sharp guitar. Its an eloquent piece of musicianship that drips heavy doses of passion and longing from every note.
