Mayflower ‘Sienna’

Mayflower are a smooth Rock & Roll band from Manchester. Formed in 2014 they have wasted no time in getting their name out there. They have secured headline gigs at the iconic Night & Day Café, a sold out show at The Castle Hotel and a string of shows around the Northwest in UK. They quickly gained the attention of Michelle Hussey and Natalie-Eve Williams at BBC Introducing in Manchester and subsequently BBC 6 Steve Lamacq has expressed his interest in them.
Their track ‘Sienna’ is the song that caught my eye. It’s a beautiful melodic track full of warm hazy nostalgic vibes portraying a melancholy sombre atmosphere. With gentle guitars and soft beats while the lull of lush harmonies in the backing vocals have a relaxing effect. The delicate smooth vocals are filled with emotion and combined with the sweet backing vocals give an uplifting feel to the track. The lustrous guitar feature gives a bite to the song and an almost psychedelic feel which adds a little contrast to the velvety sound.
Looking forward to their new tune coming out mid-August we really can’t wait to hear more!

Dot Dash ‘Flowers’

Washington, D.C. post-punk pop band Dot Dash are made up of members Terry Banks (guitar/vocal ), Steve Hansgen (guitar), Hunter Bennett (bass) and Danny Ingram (drums). Their single ‘Flowers’ is a light energetic blend of post punk and power pop. Its a short track coming in at only 2 minutes and 4 seconds but that doesn’t stop it from making an impact. The bouncy drums, infectious bass line and driving melody make this song very catchy. It has a sixties hop feel with references to the fifties and sixties dances in the lyrics ‘bunny hop’ and  ‘mash potato’ only with cutting guitars. The versus and chorus are very melodic and Banks vocals have a warm depth to them which gives this song radiance. Its definitely a song to get you bopping and dancing

Worth A Listen

Our Worth A Listen Track this week comes from The Brazen

The Leeds/Birmingham-based indie rock band The Brazen which consists of Ryan Hobbs (Vocals), Matt Lucas (Lead Guitar), Trev Phillips (Bass), Adam Larner (Drums) and Rob Clayton (Guitars) released their new single ‘Laser Lips’ yesterday, ahead of their début album that is set for release this May.
‘Laser Lips’ is a catchy upbeat tune full of swagger and a rock and roll vibe that makes you want to dance. Its an infectious tune that shows just how versatile these guys are. While ‘Burn It Down’ written by their very own Trev Phillips has a heavier rock sound,  ‘Laser Lips’ lightens things up with a disco dance feel that definitely makes you want to “shake your hips”. Rob Clayton shows off his writing skills with the catchy fun lyrics accompanied with tight luminous instrumental and a blazing slick guitar solo. The contrast in style of both Phillips and Clayton make for a really promising album as their writing styles are different but they have the ability to combine elements of their styles to make great tunes.
‘Laser Lips’ is an energetic fun song that will have you up and dancing in no time! and we mustn’t forget to mention the confident strut like swagger in Hobbs vocals it will make you want to get up and strut your stuff with them.
The Brazens album will be available to pre order from tomorrow so make sure you get your copy!

Gig Review of Beautiful Corruption and Brand New Dead Things

DSC_0272

When Entering the quiet little pub of Eddie Murphys in Thomastown you expect, by its cosy old fashioned make up, that you would be settling down for a nice quiet drink, but Eddie Murphys had other plans. If you pass through the charming room and head outside to the back, passed “Le Bog Pour Les Femmes”you find a building with a good fashioned rock and roll vibe with wooden benches and tables where bands can make as much noise as they want and this is where we found our Alternative Rock band Beautiful Corruption and their support act Brand New Dead Things.

DSC_0269
Dublin’s Brand New Dead Things kicked things off with melodic groovy sounds and strong riff based tunes. Maurice Ramsbottom (Guitars/Vocals), Dec Clarke (Drums) and Aaron Grimes (Bass/Vocals) gave us a diverse energetic set with polished sleek base riffs, robust drums and zealous guitar.Their array of tracks showed off Ramsbottom’s strong vocals as he slid into falsetto effortlessly. There was no shortage of humour either from these guys which kept the crowd entertained while they were tuning and blowing their nose. Brand New Dead things are a fun energetic band with serious skill. Looking forward to their new tracks to come
Beautiful Corruption waisted no time in following. From the first song they exuded energy. The Kilkenny band Oisín Wolfe (Lead Vocals/Rhythm Guitar) , James Brown (Lead Guitar/Backing Vocals), Rory Cooper (Bass) and Simon Cooke (Drums) started with ‘Leather’ a solid riff based song to get everyone pumped, followed by an impeccably rehearsed set that was still a fresh performance from the boys. Half way through the set they do a crowd pleasing cover of wolf Alice’ Moaning Lisa smile’ The second half of the set explodes into frantic head banging tracks with slick nimble guitar as Wolfe coaxes the crowd to their feet to dance and mosh (even a guy on crutches gets up to join in) The set comes to an end with the band giving a final burst of energy on their final song of the night.

Produced by Tom Dalgety (Royal Blood, The Maccabees), the single has already gathered critical attention. It had its first début on Radio One and has been championed by Annie Mac, Huw Stephens and Phil Taggart.

Anna Liese New EP ‘Chasing and Fading’

Anna Liese are a four-piece alternative Rock, Irish band based in Waterford. Mark Walsh (Vocals, Guitars) Emmet Conefery (guitarist), Sean Carey (Bass) and Eddy Blake (Drums) have just released their début EP ‘Chasing and Fading’.These guys give us a variety with their slow tempos, melodic guitar passages, beautiful vocal harmonies in ” Storm” which has a smooth airy drive time vibe, compared with the fast tempo and heavy riffs in ” Psycho Mask” and “Break The Chain”.

” Psycho Mask” is an upbeat funky tune with some distortion which adds a hint of psychedelic rock as they lead into a instrumental break. “Break The Chain” is a rock and roll style track and my favourite of the three with it slick guitar and punchy drums its an animated track that’s bound to sound good live and get everyone up dancing. This particular tunes heavy riff and use of guitar licks is very effective.
‘Chasing and Fading’ is a strong début EP that shows promise and with a number of gigs under their belts and preparations for their EP launch gigs which will be taking place over the next few months we can look forward to some high energy shows.

Lyerr

A four piece indie band from Manchester Lyerr, consist of Ryan Johnson (Vocals/Guitar) Samuel Greene (Guitar) Rory Magner ( Bass) James Kershaw ( Drums). Their début singles were released last month and are cracking tunes. ‘N.Y.C.’ is a rock and roll, feel good song with punchy drums and nimble guitar definitely one to get you up dancing.
” Miss Bright Ideas’ again is a strong song for a début. This song really shows their potential, its my favourite of the two. The track starts with a steady beat and guitars and breaks into a melodic chorus which shows off their skill both instrumentally and vocally. Its one of those songs that is blissful to listen to.
You can catch these guys April 1st at Night and Day cafe in Manchester if your around definitely go.
These guys are ones to watch!

Sisteray

Sisteray are a British four-piece rock band from London, UK. Formed in 2014, the band consists of Niall Rowan (lead vocals/rhythm guitar), Michael Hanrahan (bass/vocals), Daniel Connolly (lead guitar/vocals) and Marco Biagini (drums/vocals).
On first hearing Sisterays songs I realised they are a band with strong opinions and a Rock and roll, punk rock, mod revival, attitude to life which is refreshing as they say and do everything we want to do with a rebellious ‘I don’t give a damn attitude’. They have previously worked with producer Rory Attwell (The Vaccines/Palma Violets) and have created a cult-following in the UK due to high energy live performances and upbeat melodies and catchy clever lyrics about Britain in the 21st Century.
My attention was grabbed when they released ‘Back to Yours’ and ‘A Wise Man Said’ – as part of their new Double A Side Single. Both songs are very catchy ‘ A Wise Man Said’ is a fast pased tune with a gnarly sound full of raw british punk rock attitude. While ‘Back To Yours’ is a slower pase with Nialls voice adding a bit of grit to the vocal with a London twang
We will be hearing a lot more from these guys as word is beginning to spread about their energetic live performances. Definitely a band with a bright future ahead
