Bio :  Brighton’s alt/indie band Thrillhouse return with their second single, Lesser. The track follows debut single One of These Days, which grabbed the attentio of all who heard it, including Radio X’s John Kennedy, half of the DJs at KEXP, and Amazing Radio.

Why We Like It: It’s an uplifting indie track that becomes vibrant with each flourishing element. The sultry guitars inject a scorching desert vibe as the track relentlessly travels to its striking synth solo. Bio : Tel-Aviv based artist and producer Eshchar Nachmany (AKA MONAD) reveals the final single from his sophomore project with ‘Dawn Chorus’.Beginning his first musical project in an isolated house in the Moshav, Israel, Esh built a studio from scratch, remodelling broken tape machines and synths to construct layers of dreamy soundscapes. Again, Esh returned to nature for this project – renting a small cabin not far from the sea to set up his studio.

Why We Like It: It’s a shimmering kaleidoscopic slice of laid back shoegaze that melts and fizzes upon a pop sprinkled backdrop with psychedelic hues. Bio : Liam Geddes is a singer-songwriter from Ballina, Co. Mayo but based In Dublin. Dylan Flynn And The Dead Poets

Bio : Flynn, who made a name for himself as part of indie 4 piece Monday Villains took a year long hiatus before venturing into the solo field in August of 2017. Through a series of fortuitous encounters, Flynn met the Dead Poets through college and began gigging in early 2018. Flynn has gone down a DIY path with the process, by choosing to self produce and mix with his band members.

All the lines in the song tie back to memories from my holiday, so when I found myself back there last summer we tried to shoot as much footage as possible to create a video that allows the viewer to immerse themselves in the song.”

Indie Quick Picks – Featuring Glassio, Gengahr, Circa Waves, RUN iN RED and Year of the Tiger

Bio : Glassio is the Queens, NY-based new wave/dream-pop project from Irish-Iranian songwriter-producer Sam R. Glassio started in late 2015 as a duo between Sam R. and his classmate Charles Pinel before it turned into a solo project. In early 2019, Glassio released the sophomore EP Age of Experience. The EP featured the single “Back for More,” which garnered over 2M plays on Spotify and was featured on Alan Ball’s HBO show “Here & Now.” Outside of producing original material and performing, Sam R. is a remixer, producing Glassio re-works for artists like Madge, Argonaut & Wasp, Sulene, and Goldwash.

Track: Are You Having Fun Without Me?

Why We Like It: This lonely disco-hued number weaves sweet melodies into a tight electronic backdrop. The wispy 80’s synths shimmer between soft pulsing beats as Glassio creates a lushly textured indie pop track that broods with tender tones and delicate harmonies. With warm honeyed melodies and dreamy nostalgic atmosphere Glassio’s groove-laced, passionate musicianship is utterly engrossing.

Glassio says this of his single, “Though anything I write is usually an amalgam of multiple experiences, this song was pretty personal and loosely inspired by the upbringing my siblings and I had. We were moved around a lot growing up, and lost touch with friends and family members. I had always wanted to write something that tackled our upbringings, and felt this song was a perfect portal for those sentiments. I wanted to leave it pretty open ended though and hope people can apply their own experiences to the song — whether it be betrayal, a breakup, or not being accepted by someone they love.”

The mosaic wall of sound is held together by a sweet melody and smooth vocals which sprinkle dreamy speckles of scintillation and magic throughout this shiny indie pop number. 

About the song, the band said: “Icarus is a song about growing up and coming to terms with the expectations of our youth. As a child we believe anything is possible but as we get older there is a crushing realisation as we begin to understand that the journey of life has its own uncontrollable trajectory. Bio: Following on from the warmly received ‘The Letter A’ released last Autumn, the Northern Irish indie-pop quintet make a fresh-faced return with their new single and confirmation of a 7 track EP: ‘A Cure For Living’, to be released via Xtra Mile Recordings on 14 February 2020. Brand New Friend’s debut album ‘Seatbelts for Aeroplanes’, was released through Xtra Mile Recordings (Skinny Lister, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly.) in 2018. The album spawned several singles including ‘Girl’, ‘I Was An Astronaut’ and the title track, all of which garnered plays on the likes of Annie Mac, Huw Stephens and Phil Taggart shows on Radio 1, John Kennedy on Radio X and 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq. Why We Like It: This buoyant track swirls with Brand New Friend’s youthful indie musicianship. The band lather jangly guitar strides into a punchy drum and bass tag team while the harmonies between brother/ sister duo Taylor and Lauren Johnson sweeten the powerful sting. With a smooth catchy melody and lamenting guitar injection ‘Nothing Stays The Same’ is a vibrant nostalgic ditty sure to have any live crowd going wild.

Inspired by characters imagined by 80s indie veteran Lloyd Cole in his timeless ‘Jennifer She Said’ track, Brand New Friend’s ‘Nothing Stays The Same’ finds the band musing on just what may have happened next for its lovelorn protagonist… As the band explain: “‘Nothing Stays The Same’ is a love song constantly shifting perspective between two people. It’s the sound of two people who love each other deeply but who know they’re running out of distance. It’s framed in the Botanic area of Belfast, in the old Botanical gardens near Queens University. In the rain, of course. I was heavily inspired by Lloyd Cole on this track, I love the way he colours his world so you can see who he’s singing about when you close your eyes. The girl in this song is Jennifer, from ‘Jennifer She Said’. Hopefully it all works out for her…”

Bio: The Burma are an Indie rock’n’roll band based in Cork City, Ireland. The band draw inspiration from the American Indie scene of the early 2000’s and British guitar bands of the 80s and 90s, The line-up consists of long-time friends Tony O’Donovan and Peter Piggott along drummer Cian Doherty whom they in 2012. The band is named after The Burma steps in Cobh, Co. Cork. 2019 saw The Burma have their busiest year yet with continuous nation wide festival and tour dates throughout the year following the release of their most recent single “Phoney Personality”. The first single off of their upcoming 5 track EP “Sugar Moonlight”, due for release in March 2020. In the past The Burma have landed support slots for acts such as The Academic, The Strypes, Delorentos, The Blizzards, Brian Deady, The Frank and Walters and more.

Why We Like It: This ethereal gem glistens with airy spacious tones. The twinkling guitar majestically creates little melancholic sparkles of scintillation through the icy soundscape as the flickering electronics and snappy beat create a biting breezy quality. The track builds to a tense crescendo that becomes more gritty with distortion and psychedelic hues. A smooth sombre melody weaves throughout creating a mysterious, almost magical effect as the band create a swirling track that totally immerses you in their richly layered musicianship.
